Dehradun’s Transformation From Litchi Orchards to a Smart City
Dehradun in Uttarakhand, is trying to be a ‘Smart City’. Water canals of yesteryears became underground tunnels, to make the wide roads for urban traffic. From a land of ‘Litchi’ and ‘Basmati’ cultivation to the congested capital of hill state, Dehradun has started the children friendly urban development under ‘smart city mission’ of ‘Govt of India’. Yet, garbage disposal and cleanliness is still an issue. With the construction activity of real estate, its urban concrete jungle is expanding, though the large green areas of its many govt institutions like ‘Forest Research Institute’ and ‘Indian Military academy’ are still there to balance the overall ecology to some extent.
